Configuring Your CSE HTMLValidator

In order to properly configure your CSE HTML Validator, download the Validator Engine Options file for your version (version 7.x standard version 8.x standard version 8.x professional). Extract the veo file from the zip file you just downloaded (remember where you put it). Click on Options | Validator Engine Options. At the bottom of the pop-up window, click on Import/Export and then Import from File. Import the veo file.

Make sure you also deselect Options | Beginner Mode. Choose Options | File Associations | Add File Associations to the Registry. Check with your instructor how to set Enable Accessibility Checking in the Options | Validator Engine Options | Accessibility tab.

Including The Log File

After you have configured your Validator, you should confirm everything is set to generate the log file. You must include the log.txt file generated by CSE HTML Validator with every homework assignment. These are the instructions to help you know how to do that.

In whatever version of the validator you are using, click on Options on the menu bar. Then click on Validator Engine Options. Now click on the Logging tab. You should find a screen that looks something like this one.

The validator will constantly add to the bottom of this file. Therefore, just before you want to submit your homework, do one of the following

Either

You may NOT submit a log file with multiple validations unless it is one validation per page and multiple pages.

If You Do Not Have Access To A PC

Those students who do not have access to a PC may use the W3C Validation service. You need to know that the W3C validator will not necessarily give all of the correct results! Students are responsible for correcting all mistakes, no matter which validator is used.

To use the W3C Validation Service, choose either Validate by File Upload or Validate by Direct Input. After the final validation, save the html page as "validation.html" and submit this along with your homework.

You must email me before choosing this option.
